You need to figure out what is more practical for you and how you want your yard to look.
Think about your climate before you pick between gravel or grass. Is your area dry? If so, you may have to spend money on irrigation and water if you pick grass. You can pick a grass that is best for your climate, which will improve your water usage. If you live in a region that experiences a lot of wind or tornadoes, then gravel is not a great idea. Whether you decide on gravel or grass will also depend on how you want to use your yard. Pets usually prefer grass. And children who fall on gravel can hurt themselves, so it is not a good choice for play areas. On the other hand, if you have an area with regular foot traffic, gravel will stand up to the strain much better than grass. It also won’t turn to dust in summer or mud during rainy season. You can even use it to provide extra parking space.
No matter what material you end up picking, your yard is going to look so much better and it will change the way your home looks. In that aspect, think about which style better suits your home. What about the rest of the neighborhood? What would go better with the style of your neighbor’s homes?
