At its inception, developers planned to turn Rolando into San Diego’s answer to Hollywood. The location provides some beautiful Rolando view real estate. The builders held many social events hoping to lure the elite to the new community filled with Spanish-style homes and buildings. In fact, popular stars of the 1920s like Buster Keaton, the Talmadge sisters and Theodora Warfield had neighborhoods named after them, though records do not prove any of these stars ever lived in the area.

By the 1940s, a group of developers gave the area new facelift. With the nearby college a short drive away and an area businesses getting war contracts, Rolando went through a period of major growth. Consolidated Aircraft’s business boom required new workers and those new workers needed homes. Developers allowed residents to choose their own home style, rather than limiting them to a couple of designs. Soon Rolando was a bustling town a short distance from San Diego and the area colleges. Since that day, the town has continued to grow. Residents find area amenities are conveniently located in town and a short drive away.
